Apple is expected to dip its feet into the wearable segment with the rumored iWatch. While the company has managed to keep things under wraps, a book by former Apple designed Hartmut Esslinger reveals that this isn’t the first time the company has developed a smart wrist watch.
The book titled Keep It Simple: The Early Design Years of Apple, has images of early prototypes and one such prototype is the smart wrist watch seen above. The device may look very rudimentary, but we need to remember it was conceptualized in the 1980’s. The watch was essentially a keypad with numbers zero to nine that could be wrapped around one’s wrist. This wearable device would be connected to a headset with a single earpiece and an integrated microphone.
Needless to say, this wearable device never made it past the prototype phase. Esslinger’s book has many such photos of the Apple prototypes that never reached production. The book is available on Amazon India for Rs 2,050 excluding delivery charges and you can buy it here.
